Lok mela starts with full zeal in Islamabad

Where there is a hysteria of coming polls and everyone gossips about Musharraf,s nomination paper,s rejection, 'Lok Mela' in the Capital city gives a time out activity to the general public.

The exciting atmosphere and beauty of Lok festival lies in the huge number of visitors and various products stalls. Starting from local clothes to tradition Dupatas, men's steel bangles to kids wooden toys, baby girls's dolls to a mother's knitted garments, metal works to lacquer works, wax printing to stone carving.The food and beverage stalls are besides these formal ones to quench the thirst and ease the hunger.

Lok Mela 2013 starts in Islamabad.

Lok Mela is organized by Lok Virsa ( National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage ) an independent institution but works under the Art and culture Ministry. Besides separate in many cities, every year the Lok mela is organized in Islamabad in summer season and just near Shakarparian under the aegis of Lok Virsa.

The main purpose of the Lok Festival is to promote and make easy access of the local products to the major markets of the country, so that the poor and nomadic people who work all year on their specific commodities can earn better prices of their goods. This method helps in eradicating the poverty from the country too. 

Besides the bargaining and buying tactics the musical activities are also witnessed at 'Lok Mela' which features artisans-at-work exhibition, provincial cultural pavilions, folkloric song and dance performances, cultural evenings, craft bazaar, NGO stalls, theatre performances and special entertainment for children.
